Agreed. Hawaii is so easy; from the west coast, a thee-day weekend is totally feasible. It's also awfully nice. Wailea would be spectacular if you removed the golf courses and shopping malls and about 80% of the tourists. I'll put up with all that because the beaches are really nice, though when the Andaz is pricing at $1200+ per night, the value proposition is pretty dubious.
I pretty much agree with this sentiment. Along these lines, there's also Cabo, which is closer, but you can't always swim, you might have a painful immigration line on the way there, and there's something just plain easy when it comes to staying in the US as far as rental cars and road safety. Hawaii is often more about relaxation than adventure for us, but it really checks that box.
