I'll be happy to keep the forum updated with my claim as it's a little out of the ordinary,

As per advice, I asked for an Avios gesture for downgrade compensation (no figure suggested), submitted receipts for breakfast in DUB (as now flying EI with no lounge or on board food) , asked for ORC and chucked in a claim for having to depart over 1 hour earlier with less than 14 days notice.

Today received a reply (in less than 2 weeks).

The ORC, expenses and early departure compensation was not mentioned. BA stated they were very sorry I was downgraded on my DUB to LHR and JFK to BNA sectors and that compensation of €38 per pax will be paid. I'm suspecting this €38 is 30% of the DUB LHR fare.

I have today sent a reply stating that I wasn't downgraded on JFK to BNA as I never booked this route. As they didn't want to play ball with an Avios gesture, I've asked for 75% of the LHR BNA. I know this is unlikely to succeed but at least it gives me a place to start. I also asked them to respond on the other 3 aspects of the claim and a full breakdown of the fare

What was extra annoying was that the reply didn't quote the case reference (I have a few at the moment), was from a no reply email address and didn't have the link in the email to reply. I did seek advice on this on another thread and the excellent suggestion was to pump the case # into live chat, which worked a treat.

If you didn't read my initial post, this was for a BAH with DUB LHR BNA / LAS ORD LHR MAD fights and car hire in LAS for 7 people at a total of €11,000 with the LHR BNA cancelled at 0030 which resulted in us flying from DUB on EI 2h40 earlier, then via JFK with the last sector also in Y.

Is it normal for BA to reply to one part of a complaint separately without addressing other areas? I was thinking the expenses and ORC would be very quick and simple, the downgrade compensation might have been a bit of two and fro emails, but we would have got there. I am expecting early departure compensation to be denied on the basis of the WEAN code assigned but I may push this after discovering the multiple BNA cancellations recently and that our assigned aircraft was de-assigned the evening before and didn't fly for 3 days (tech?). Also, I won a previous WEAN case against BA.

I an already envisaging this going to CEDR and just going with their findings.

As promised. An update.

We eventually got ORC after a number of calls, emails and live chats. The contact mentioned on this board didn't help.

We got paid in full for the necessary taxi to LHR for the positioning flight (necessary as a cancellation brought forward our departure time to the extent we would not have made in on our booked trains.

We got refunded just €38 for the downgrade. I think this represented 30% of the DUB-LHR leg and ignored the fact we had to fly in Y from JFK to BNA instead of LHR to BNA in J

We got refunded our meal in DUB (in lieu of lounge or meal on plane)

We have been refused any compensation, despite my mentioning the factors I learnt from this board which suggests that weather may have been a good excuse to cancel a flight they would rather not have flown, due to lack of serviceable air frames. I was also told the €38 downgrade compensation was correct, but offered no explanation as to why.

As BA told me this was their final position, I have opened a CEDR case for €600 EU261 compensation and using the Mennens formula I calculated we were due €125 each, so have also claimed for a further €87 in downgrade compensation.

I'll let you know how it goes.
