Whichever part of the plane I’m in, seeing a baby on board makes me wonder if they’re going to be crying or not. I know they can’t help it and the parents try to settle them but it doesn’t make my flight any more pleasant if they do. Happy to say my initial anxiety about it usually turns out unfounded. Overnight, ear plugs and medication seems to work as I can’t sleep without at least earplugs on a plane as aircraft have very high levels of ambient noise anyway. One cause of trouble is completely preventable with kids and adults playing tik toks or games without earphones because they are so used to their kids noise. I’ve never had a problem speaking to a parent who hasn’t realised the kid’s Nintendo is on volume 10 and the parent can’t hear coz they’ve got their headphones on and the usual response is an apology and that they didn’t realise. Headphones and earphones should be on every child’s Christmas and birthday wishlist as it’s a much more frequent problem that babies crying. In response to an earlier tongue in cheek suggestion, it’s against UK law to give alcohol to an under-5, I believe, although old fashioned gripe water had a certain something in it that made everything seem less concerning
