I honestly don't get the complaints over the lack of padding on the new seats, they still give you that mattress pad that you can slide underneath you at any time if you wish. It's the best J seat in the business IMO, and yes I've flown Q suite. The Room offers A LOT more space that you can actually move in, and a more useable layout than Qatar's offering.
