Vinpearl Landmark 81, Autograph Collection, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam [Master Thread]

Check In The lobby is on the 47th floor and is where you’ll need to come to transfer elevators to the guest rooms; there will be people at the ground floor directing you to the elevators. Check-in was done quickly and they gave me a cup of butterfly pea tea. They apologized that the pool is under renovation until October 13th and is running a shuttle to haul you to the Le Meridien to use their pool if you want to (though they won’t haul you there for other reasons). They thanked me for being titanium and explained the benefits, most notably that breakfast is either at the lounge (71st floor) or the restaurant (66th floor), and that the welcome benefits was either points or a list of things that they were out of (coffee packets, coffee filters — yes, just the filters, and some local snacks). They then gave me my room keys and walked me to the elevators. Location The location is quite a bit outside of the “touristy spots” of district 1 and is in the Binh Thanh district in the Vinhomes Landmark residential area. It’s directly connected to the Landmark 81 mall and the observatory. The mall has some restaurants and a food court in the basement, as well as some shopping like Uniqlo and Innisfree. There’s also a few local coffee chains in the area, such as Cong and Marou.Other than that, there’s a beautiful little park across the hotel and I had many a walk there. Since it’s a residential area, there’s a few grocery stores, convenience stores (FamilyMart, 7-11, Circle K), as well as Korean restaurants in the area. There’s a street with some local restaurants but they did not seem too clean. It’s a short 30 minute ride from the airport and was usually a 15-20 minute ride into district 1, each way costing around 100k VND. Room There were no suites available so they put me in a panoramic room. Wow, the room is absolutely gorgeous! It felt a bit small at around 350 sqft, but the views are amazing; I get to see all of HCMC from my room. The bathroom was nice with a large free-standing tub, but unfortunately it had no views. The sink had very strong water pressure. Unfortunately, the toilet was not a bidet, but I could just be spoiled by Japan and Taiwan. There were four bottles of water every day in my room as well as tea and coffee. There were also 3 bars of local chocolate and a coconut in my room as a welcome gift. Dining I had breakfast at the restaurant for two out of the four days. There was a generous spread, though not as generous as other hotels in Southeast Asia, since it was mostly cold items. The pastries looked very delicious. Everything was buffet-style and there was no a-la-carte menu. There was a noodle bar with pho, rice rolls, and some other noodle dish every day.The views are gorgeous and you’re almost guaranteed to see someone video-calling during your breakfast! Gym The gym is on the 46th (?) floor and is quite comprehensive. There’s a power rack, two benches, and a bunch of other equipment. There’s also a jacuzzi that had a view of the city! It was very relaxing to chill in and nobody was there when I went twice during my four day stay. Service There was turndown service every day and they would give me a little Vietnamese snack / dessert! It was such a thoughtful gesture. The one thing I have to mention is that the level of English of the staff at this hotel seemed not up to standard. From the front desk agent not understanding me telling them my keycard didn’t work, to two out of the three staff at the lounge not understanding me when I asked whether the juices had sugar or not, it felt a bit unpolished. The hygiene seemed a bit questionable, as well. Multiple times, the food-handling staff at breakfast and happy hour would sneeze into their hands or use their hands to scratch their nose and then immediately handle food, or they would put their thumb into the bowl when carrying food. Lounge The lounge is on the 71st floor and is open from 6 AM to 10 PM, with breakfast being 6 AM - 10 AM and happy hour being 5 PM - 8 PM.I didn’t get to check out the lounge’s breakfast because I was told it would be fewer choices than at the restaurant.I went for happy hour and it was quite nice. There was a little noodle bar with snail noodle soup, some hot meat snacks, a salad bar, and lots of desserts. The bar also had fresh fruit juices. It wasn’t a lot of people there. Overall I would come back here for my next stay if I wanted to be away from the city to have some space to relax as well as great views. I would not come back if I wanted to be in the centre of the action.
