Old thread, But NEW problem with Amex now in China in 2023. Amex not taken much anywhere now, even some hotels, (Courtyard in Shanghai, & Westin in Beijing) I called Amex International #, they answered to a N Carolina # on my China mobile #, BUT very British sounding accent. NOT helpful at all!. Leve Amex at home, No problems with my Chase Visa .
