The brand isn't going anywhere because Alaska will never have any kind of East Coast hub. The closest thing to a new "hub" will probably be SAN, along with some expansion of routes at SNA. But AS' model outside of Alaska, Seattle, and a few transcons they took over from VX is to cherry pick.
Im still surprised how much AS is investing in SAN. Look at the waitlists for their JFK flights. They have more F seats left than people on the list. Tonight’s flight has already cleared the waitlist with 4/16 F still open. And that’s not unusual. Look at the next 72 hour window and you’ll see the same thing. Even outside that window Sunday night has U space open. Now compare that to the main lines and it’s a stark difference.
