Could be a combination of both! BA is known for rejecting legitimate compensation requests with all sort of excuses. Probably they done the maths and a good percentage of people will not bother with going to court etc. Saying that, they never rejected any of mine so far.
Just politely but firmly updated the date saying the responsibility under UK/EU law is the operating carrier.
That said, their official excuse is now ‘its AA’s responsibility’ (it isn’t) which should make a CEDR claim easy if it does have to go that far.
