due to the prevailing winds from west to east it is quicker to go with the wind then against it.
If it took the reverse route it would be significantly longer

I'm sorry for some off-topic, but is there any list of airlines that use that route?
I know Finnair (for example AY68) is also using only west routes from and to Japan, but other European airlines seem to use the "east route" for their return from Japan (AF, KLM, LH, ...).
Is this because they are too far south (compared to London and Helsinki) to make a big difference?
