BA closed the deal to buy bmi on 22 December 2011 and received regulatory approval for the purchase on 30 March 2012.

bmi formally left Star Alliance on 20 April 2012, but Star Alliance benefits via Diamond Club persisted until 31 May 2012.

I expect this process will be far longer; regulatory approvals will take much longer to secure, plus there is the need to formally exit Chapter 11 in the US.
