Request the Avianca customer service agent to resend you the confirmation via email - typically that will be generated by the Amadeus reservation system and will have an Amadeus.com email ID. You should be able to see the PNR for each operating airline in that email.
Thank you very much! I tried that method before, and the PNR in the confirmation document from Amadeus.com doesn't work on United website. In fact, United has helped me check their system and no reservation under my friend's name is made, no matter what PNR is...
