From LAX, you could probably find a round-trip domestic F fare to the east coast somewhere for $1600-$1700 (factoring in that MQDs won't be earned on the taxes and such) that would still net 6500 MQMs, especially if you add a connection.

That said, my own opinion is that GM is not really worth much over Silver Medallion - certainly not $1500. What specific benefits of GM are driving you to spend $1500 to get it?

GM doesn't get you SkyClub access on international tickets now (you would still get lounge access at partner lounges overseas).
You only get C+ at 72 hours out, which still will only mean middle seats in a lot of cases, if there's even any C+ seats left.
You'll get priority baggage that still ends up being ignored much of the time.
You'll get "free SDC" that's still difficult to use unless you buy high fare buckets.

I have an AMEX plat so I have lounge access covered for the next year until they limit us to 6 lounge access per year. For my My hub in SoCal LAX / SNA, luckily I’ve been getting upgraded as GM on 75 % of flights since the summer. I even got upgraded to business class on a flight to Cancun. And last flight I wasn’t upgraded on was because I booked 3 seats on one itinerary.

Based on that alone, I’ve already gotten more bang for my buck as a GM. I may parlay this status into the Alaskan 50k thru 2025, but I just to have that option available to me considering how close I am. I forgot about ITA matrix so I’ll give that a shot. Thanks.
