96 hours is just the beginning of the CPU upgrade window for 1Ks. Once seats are allocated, upgrades are processed. I'm pretty sure UA has to deal with hundreds of passengers per day who confuse "as early as" with a firm time.
Trust me, I am well aware of the diff between 'may' and 'will'. I am also aware that in the false ad case respondent will have to prove that 'may' can theoretically happen and does happen in practice, even if infrequently.
