I have frequently found it helpful to force your browser to look for some popular website. Google.com doesn't seem to work but I've had good luck with both Yahoo.com and CNN.com - two sites I don't normally use. Attempt the connection, then open a browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) and type a random but authentic website into the address bar. About 90% of the time this will activate the log-in prompt.
