I haven't done UX design since it was called UI design when "disruptive" was still a Bad Thing, but I agree, the design is not intuitive, in making the knob function modal. I wish they'd just install simple to understand separate up/down controls for each function, and lose the shuttle/jog knob completely: it's style over function.
And no, I'm sorry, don't know what those two buttons are for: once I've figured out the basic seat recline and which light is controlled by which button/knob combo, and failed numerous times in getting the right direction to turn the knob, we've generally already arrived at the destination.
In general the overall design is a step in the wrong direction, although being able to push a single button to return the seat to the correct landing position without having to rely on just the right knob rotation is a positive aspect.
