The problem these days one person's "cheap and nasty" is another person's sustainable award winning amenity kit..
I personally think it's a huge step backwards but I know a huge amount of resources went into the development with the focus on it being sustainable. The days of having an amenity kit on many airlines are probably limited, with the future being asking for things that you want. Hotels have gone the same way ditching single use shampoo / soap and offering things such as toothbrushes on request.
Many people may dislike these changes but many people also love them..
