You can sometimes get two weeks wiggle room if you ask nicely. Not more than that.
It can be tricky for some non UK residents to get the 4 qualifying flights, but there isn't any way round it. If you are in the UK it's pretty easy to book a short internal hop to make up the segments you need (even if you don't really need to go anywhere).
