That's just . . . weird. And a waste of time all around. If the remaining C+ seats get snatched, and it matters to you, you'd just cancel the ticket and buy something different. And if there are C+ seats available, you have to come back 30 mins later?
Anyway, back to free booze . . . clearly United has decided that this benefit applies only to 1Ks. They don't even offer drink coupons to Plat any more, which seems to me the way to handle it (or do them virtually). I liked the coupons if for no other reason than I could also give one to spouse . . . yeah, would be nice if UA tossed a few of those the way of Golds and Plats still (say 5 and 10/year respectively), and maybe 10 for 1Ks in addition to their in flight benefit..
