I bought an economy class ticket from BA that included (among others) a HEL-LHR segment on AY metal. The AY segments were ticketed with BA flight numbers. Travel was is August 2023.
I was able to go into Finnair's web site, manage the reservation with the BA confirmation code, and buy an upgrade to PE on just the one HEL-LHR segment. I am not sure if the ticket was reissued or what exactly, but I flew in PE on the AY A350.
You didn’t upgrade. You still flew in economy. On LHR-HEL, PE seats are sold as economy. You can pay extra to select them, just like you can pay to select MCE on AA.
