If it needs AA to process, then I wouldn't expect it to be possible
I'm pretty sure you could previously request an AY upgrade on a non-AY issued ticket. There have been a slew of customer unfriendly changes recently, so perhaps the request was made prior to the rules changing.
I'd try AA again to see if the ticket can be reissued and also consider asking AY to liase with AA to get it done.
