Children flying without ID (domestic U.S.) with an adult on United
Travelers,
For an upcoming flight with my children within the continental U.S. on United, I was looking at I.D. requirements for children, and found out that elementary school-age children don’t need to show I.D. at any phase of travel (check-in, TSA screening, or boarding) when traveling with an adult in addition to not checking in a bag.
I was looking at I.D. requirements because my two children’s middle names were inadvertently omitted when buying their tickets. Given that neither United, nor the foreign airline that issued our award tickets under one booking (passenger record locator) code offered a reasonable solution*, I was hoping to fly with my children without showing their I.D. and without checking bags. Am I overlooking anything?
Thank you for your advice everyone…

* The foreign airline, not having direct knowledge of I.D. requirements in the U.S., requested that we cancel our existing award tickets and buy new ones including middle names at the new, higher award price. Neither was United able to add the children’s middle names. Also, my children’s award travel, once associated with their United frequent flyer accounts (with the “Add upcoming travel to your account” feature) caused their middle names to disappear from their frequent flyer accounts.
