It would be nice if, say, more than a week or two after the rental is closed, any additional charges were notified in advance with an itemized bill. How long before it's no longer reasonable? Surely you wouldn't expect to get a surprise charge a year after a rental? If you rent frequently, you might not even know which rental the charge was for (or if it's legitimately yours).
