With many retailers they have the ability to update the balance right in GW, so there's not much to keep track of. I had heard that Google Wallet can do this. Not yet, from what I understand in Apple Wallet. And I think that the Google Wallet app for iPhone is not quite there yet
For anyone that might consider buying AS gift cards, they have a very nice Wallet feature where you can just add them and have a balance to spend against. Trip credits can be added, too. They have an expiration (which is shown) and gets used first. Works brilliantly. AA do not have such a capability.
(I know that this is somewhat OT but, since this is the AA board, I figure it not unlikely that folks might want AA or AS GCs via the GC.com visa eCards.)
