This is certainly viable if you can live with the limitations of a single-merchant card. But again you should also look at the opportunity cost of this - sites like Raise.com sell branded giftcards at a heavy discount (often 10% or more), which can be a much better deal than 3x miles.
Thanks. For us, all we care about here are the LPs. we have more RDMs than we can use, so they are our gravy. The LPs are what matters here. So opportunity cost is minimal here. The only one that matters is what we don't spend on a card that can get us Hyatt points, but we spend most everything else there,

Thanks. so it sounds like, if we can find a covered retailer where we'll spend an appreciable amount, this works for the, basically, 4.9X LPs with zero net cost. Otherwise, get the Visa eCards and just buy GCs for something like AA since one can use up to 8 of those per transaction versus one CC/Debit card.
