In cases where giftcards.com sells cards for a desired merchant, why would one not just buy those GCs directly. In many of these cases these have no added fees (unlike the Visa/Mastercard). In this case, the cost for LPs is, basically, zero.
Is there a reason that this would not work?

I do this often. I shop first (i.e. Petsmart), get my total, buy the GC for exact amount on GC.com, wait about 1 minute to get the GC, and then check out on the retailer site. Nothing left over to keep track of later.
