If the flight numbers are AS, in theory, you should be able to apply GGUs providing the fare class of the AS segment AA sold you is N or higher.
I feel silly for not understanding this, as I've been flying for a while. The flights have both AS (97) and AA (7498) numbers, but the flight is operated by AS. I feel like this falls in the latter category? Regardless, I booked with AA to use up an expiring flight credit, and I'm in too low of a fare class to apply the GGU. Something tells me getting into the correct fare class is going to be a huge pain as I assume AA will have to handle it.

The invalid code message can also mean you are trying to use a code that has already been used before.
This is what I thought, and I was able to apply GGUs to my flights in 2024, even though the phone agent said that wasn't allowed. Turns out the person who shared the code with me used OCR to copy it out of a screenshot and a number was replaced.

I'm going to end up using a lot of GGUs this year, which is nice since I'd rather not waste them, but honestly they are such a pain to use even if U space is available.
