The hot summer weather doesn't start until mid-July, when rainy season ends. Mid-May is generally very nice, sunny days, not muggy, cools off at night. Rainy season starts early to mid-June, but even then the days are not blazing hot and muggy. Once summer hits, it's hot and muggy, and that typically lasts until mid-September. This year it's been forecast to go until end of September.
We just got home today from Kyushu to Tokyo - tomorrow may go to 35 in Tokyo according to local forecasts -- I hope your forecast is right that this heat will end soon as I'm so tired of sweating! At least in Kyushu we had decent winds that made the heat almost tolerable -- back home in Tokyo, not so much....
