I have a feeling prices are starting to normalise to "pre-Covid" levels in general for winter travel, and some airlines were trying to milk as much money out travellers the first half of this year (plus the summer season) now that Covid is "over".
From my travels this year with LO, I've paid sometimes close to 300 EUR on some occasions for the cheapest Y ticket (some LH flights at the same times were 400 EUR).
So your theory may be valid regarding C flight pricing and upgrades.
