1. You don't expect to achieve 40 nights in the third year (2024 in your case) and therefore better to claim the pass and at least get another year
2. IHG at some point make it harder to get the lounge pass (say, 50 or 60 nights) so you may as well claim what you can now.

Any thoughts?
In my case your observations hit the nail on the head very accurately!

I'll hit 70 sometime in Mid December. I alreadt triggered 40 early March so have pass until late 2024.

But I'm not gambling on the points you observe. And will trigger the 70 night option sometime on Jan 1/2

If AMB will not renew my Diamond for 2025 I will be shifting a lot of 2024 bookings to get status elswhere - and will be watching for a status match option too. IHG hotel options are a long way behind in quality terms at a few of my most frequent locations.

Re; when the day starts. I note that with the just ended Asia Flash Sale - Jan 25 ended at midnight Asian time - not midnight in LA as I have seen on other promotions! I was about add 2 more nights in KL. But no real loss as the points price of The IC KL dropped pretty close to my equivalation of the promotion price! The new cash price was ridiculous in comparison.

AND --- for info re those who have been debating usefulness. Since qualifying in March I have used the pass 14 X since - mostly in IC's

22 of the 40 Qualifying nights were at IC's and 11 at CP's. The balance was at airport HI/HIX's.
