Yes, more than happy because what I am looking for in a newspaper is first and foremost analysis and comment. The idea that quality journalism is measured by the number of seconds elapsing between an event and reporting about it is belied everyday by the existence of 24hr TV news channels. Sure, there needs to be a certain degree of actualité for it to qualify as news but immediacy is rarely conducive to quality, at any rate with written journalism.
I think the point being made - and if it isn't, then I'm going to make it - is that almost everything contained in a printed newspaper appeared in the digital version the previous day, certainly by the time that the newspaper went to press. You don't miss anything by reading the digital edition.
I do understand the reluctance to leave newsprint behind. There was a time when one of my greatest small pleasures was sitting in a coffee shop on a Saturday morning with a copy of the
Independent, and I was bereft when that newspaper went digital-only. But I quickly got used to reading my news on a digital device, and now cannot imagine wanting to wrestle with a newspaper, or being unable to follow the hyperlinks within a feature that take me to other, related features. I also wouldn't want to be spending the amount of money I'd need to spend in order to read the
Guardian,
Telegraph and
Independent, as I now do, for almost nothing.
