The pass has been extended with two new country-wide routes: Spain (BCN/MAD) and Netherlands (AMS/EIN). These are not available as single-city routes.
For me this is exciting news as I often travel from AMS. However the pass prices are not exactly in line with the other existing ones (DUS is ~25% cheaper per flight compared to AMS/EIN), and on top of that NL taxes are a hefty 65 euro (~ 30 euro more than other places). This means that the pass is not an automatic must-buy. The 0-day flight segments (including tax) cost about the same as (A-fare) business class would have been only a year ago.
Still, I'm actually considering the 0-day pass for NL. The difference between 30 and 0-day pass is 22 euro per segment which allows a whole lot more flexibility. This is probably where the pass value lies as closer to departure the ticket price usually jumps much more than that 22 euro price difference. And having the flexibility to purchase close to departure is obviously something that adds value once you have that option, and it allows some peace of mind.
One thing that bothers me is the lack of upgrade options. Coupons are allowed but doing so will eliminate the possibility of changing the flight. Which doesn't make a lot of sense with a 0-day pass. Apparently bid-for-upgrades are not applicable either. So the only thing that can be done is book and upgrade right at the time that check in opens. Which is a bit of a gamble and has rather high chances of missing out. Has anybody found a way around this?
When travelling in Economy the 8-segment pass offers a 50% discount on upfront seats. Does anybody know what that ends up to be for international flights? I recently paid 10 euro for such seat but am unsure if that was already discounted for being a Gold member. And if you do get upgraded through a coupon you will likely lose that seat reservation fee, I don't think you can get that refunded?
