Lovely hotel in Kaohsiung!
Introduction Was in Kaohsiung for two days, mainly to eat the food and sightsee but also as an escape from taipei to relax. Location The location is somewhat convenient? It’s directly connected to the E Sky Mall, a high end shopping mall in Kaohsiung with lots of luxury brands. It’s also a 5-ish minute walk to the Aozihdi MRT station which connects directly to both the KHH airport, if arriving by plane, and the New Zuoying station, if arriving by HSR. The walk to the MRT station is not fully paved right now because they’re building the extension for the light rail, so it’s not the easiest walk. There’s a lot of local restaurants within a 5 minute walking distance and it’s also next door to a Costco, so if you crave a hotdog… Check In Check in went smoothly. I asked for a suite upgrade and they gave me a Premier Suite as titanium. The welcome gift was either 4 soft drink vouchers (coffee, tea, soft drinks) or 1000 points. I took the former, exchanged it for four coke zeros, and kind of regret since you can get it from the lounge too. They explained all the benefits, including lounge access, breakfast, and the amenities. Then I was off to my room.Note that there are different sets of elevators depending on which floor your room is on, so make sure that you don’t take the wrong elevator. Room My Premier Suite was huge! It had a Japanese-style washitsu room that was very gorgeous. It also had two tables / couches and a large bathroom with one sink. I hoped that there would be a working table, but I think the Japanese room made up for that. It was more than enough room for me to spread out of the two days. The toilet had a bidet and the bathtub had lavender scented bath salts. The AC was a bit on the weaker side, but that’s no problem for me as I prefer a warmer room. The shower had one of the strongest shower pressures I’ve ever experienced. It was super refreshing, especially after a humid day in Kaohsiung. Dining Breakfast was from 6:30 to 10:30 and was either at the lounge on the 33rd floor or at the buffet restaurant on the 9th floor. I went to the latter. The breakfast spread was large, just like other chain hotels in Asia. There was a small western selection of breads and a huge Asian / Taiwanese selection. Notable items were a table of vegetarian dishes (vegetables, buns, yams), Taiwanese Gua Bao with pork belly, Taiwan soy milk, and three different kinds of porridge. You can also have breakfast at the lounge. Gym I checked out the gym and it was huge. It’s a proper gym. There were three racks and multiple benches. There’s also personal trainers there that would help you with your form or with spotting. They were very strict with pants, though. I was wearing Uniqlo’s jean-looking pants but they did not allow it, even after asking me multiple times if it has elasticity. Service Everyone at the hotel was very kind and courteous. There were no gaps and also nothing noteworthy. I was able to have housekeeping come after 4PM without asking, which I thought was nice. Overall I would definitely come back here if / when I visit Kaohsiung again, partially because there are no other chain hotels in the city :’) but also partially because of the great experience and the location.
