From what I experienced with AP account freezes, I had the following scenario:
1. AP froze my account with 300k plus points in it and I was unable to earn or redeem my points. However, I was able to login during the first few days after account frozen. When I clicked on My Profile, a banner at the top was telling me to call the number shown. Once I called the number, the customer service asked me to send proofs of identity and residency to the compliance dept. The rep told me to wait 2 months before the compliance people contacts me.
2. I sent the required documentations to the compliance dept and nothing happened in 2 weeks. At this point, I could no longer login to my AP account. Aeroplan has closed my account apparently due to what they believed fraud, although it was some algorithm that flagged my account as fraud because I just moved to a new house.
3. I started receiving new AP membership cards through the mail one per month, then received emails from Aeroplan asking me to activate the new membership card. When I activated the card, the new account started with 0 points. AP unlinked my froze account number from my two credit card accounts, forcing me to call the banks to relink my CC to the new AP account.
4. Now, 4 months have passed and I haven't yet to hear back from the AP compliance dept. I called several times and the reps told me to wait another 29 days. I now live with the new account that Air Canada sent me with 0 points. As for my old account that was frozen, I might just lost all 300k points and AP didn't provide an explanation.
So I guess once they froze your account and asks you to send proofs to the compliance dept, you're probably done. They will stop you from logging in to your frozen account send you new membership cards so you can start fresh. And if you don't activate the new card within a period of time, they will send another one with a different membership number. But I still have a slight hope of getting all my points back at some point in the future. If I do get the points back, I will be sure to use up the points and cancel all credit cards partnered with AP. Too much headache.
