On a recent trip to Europe, I asked for "face cloths" at the front desk if washcloths were not in the room. IIRC, all but one of the hotels that did not have washcloths in the room had them available on request, but using that "face cloths" buzz phrase. (I wish I had known this trick on my previous trip to Europe, when I went out and bought washcloths.)
