I wasn't aware that a young child could have their own reservation -- I had assumed that the "system" would prevent that from being booked without, for example, pay the 'unaccompanied child' fee at the same time. Going forward, that would seem the best way to go, assuming that planning for extra time at the airport for stopping at the counter instead of checking in online isn't a hassle.
The website won't allow it, phone agents can and put documentation in so it doesn't trigger an unaccompanied minor notification. It will be ineligible for OLCI even with the documentation.
