Whilst I agree that it shouldn’t be necessary, as BA policy should be what take precedence here unless it was a stipulation in the wet lease contract and pax informed well in advance (and given opportunity to change/refund), pragmatically, it would help if one is in J and one’s bag weighed 10kg as was the case here.
