This wasn’t normal most of this year. But a couple of days ago, here is what I saw of a similar problem — group D boarding passes for Star Golds on partner airline-issued award tickets for SK flights:

The SK lounge granted manual access anyway based on the *G digital cards, but getting priority boarding for *Gs at the gate was repeatedly denied by the Danish gate agent who tried to insist that A/B group boarding wasn’t applicable to Star Golds unless the boarding pass showed Group A boarding. Truly ridiculous that the Star Gold boarding noted on the electronic displays is to be taken as only applicable if SK can push out a *G indicator on the SK boarding passes.
In the days before the electronic boarding gates were as prevalent at CPH as they are now, it used to be easier to deal with these situations where the *G status wouldn’t show up on the SK boarding passes but the traveler had a *G card to show.

I tried that and just about everything under the sun short of buying regular paid SK tickets, but it has been flopping with SK at CPH and at ARN the last couple of days and the D boarding pass probelm has been super sticky when it really shouldn’t be.
Perhaps this change this month has to do with: a) SK wanting to cut down on the ability of “no overhead cabin baggage” — typically Group E? — fare passengers to get Group A/B boarding by way of Star Alliance elite status; and/or b) SK has a partial system link break down with regard to *G showing up on and yet a manual check still notes the partner account info to be *G.
