I've posted before that there was a time when AA catered thin gruel ("just add water"!) and shelf stable crackers as the F dinner on flights out of LIH while UA procured actual meals.

AA's company li(n)e: "there's no catering at LIH"
Reality: there's catering at LIH if you're willing to write a check as indicated by UA's contract with a local restaurant to cater fresh food on UA departures from LIH.
AA also did local restaurant catering out of LIH when they briefly operated LIH-DFW. AS contracts with a restaurant there as well.
