I presume you are looking for business class. While US-DOH has been extremely limited, in my experience there has been relatively more availability when connecting from AA (e.g., CVG-JFK-DOH). The availability disappears when checking the non-stop route (JFK-DOH). It seems QR has limited the non-stop options except for extremely close in redemptions, and even that is hit or miss.
Try playing around with the multi-city booking tool to force some connections that might otherwise not come up.
Don't give up on the JL redemptions. If you can get a partner award on JL it should require fewer miles than going through DOH (which will be two separate awards to Indonesia).
Thank you - Yes, I was looking at Business. Always a small pool to pick from so why I try to grab when I can.
I have been looking backwards and forwards and most everything I'm finding is going through LHR. The fees alone make me choke.
My SOP has been to get the US>DOh direct flight pretty early not long after 330 and then add the repositioning within US flight either paid or later as that availability seems to come later. With a long layover, it usually isnt a big deal even if separate tickets - the AA local agents seem willing to throughcheck bags
Maybe that doesnt work as well now?
I tried the multi city thing a couple of times but that just didnt work too well. Seems like a lot of errors.. Will try that again though
I get the two award issue but so far, that NRT/HND transfer has put me off and all of the availability there seems to be forcing it into two awards anyway. I have the miles for going through DOH and may even plan a stayover in DOH to break up the trip if I have to do the extra miles.
