I am afraid this is a bit more complicated: I think Lufthansa was very confident that Kaefer would strive to deliver First Class given their name and reputation and agreed to leave Kaefer with full discretion on the actual offering for payment of a fixed sum. This turned out to be not a good choice but pacta sunt servanda so no walking away. They have shown Kaefer over and over again that MUC does much better for about the same money.
Nota bene: this is my read of the discussions I had with LH and was not explicitly confirmed by anyone.
