I doubt Delta can and will check my luggage through with Jal as they are not in the same alliance.

I used to check through on Delta and Korean air line or klm buying separate tickets.

I see, Delta is the first flight. Yeah, then you will in all likelihood need to go through immigration, collect your luggage and go to the JAL counter. JAL does have a 60 minute cut off for check in and bag drop.
