I would never go on the LCCs that go to DMK, so BKK all the way for me - travel time should be similar though.
Conrad is still my favourite (maybe I am biased), and is a great place, well connected and all. On a Saturday morning it should not take you more than 40 mins (conservative) to Suvarnabhumi, and given you are in J the lounge options are actually pretty good as an alternative to hotel breakfast
I think only options for domestic are LCC? Was going to fly either Air Asia or Thai Smile, whichever had the better flight time.

I saw lots of post here mention Conrad was in a convenient location, but yes, planning to visit temples. But also wanted somewhere easy to get to, so that i can drop off luggage when arriving from airport on Fri morning/afternoon and then easy to get back to airport when leaving sat morning
Didn't seem to be many options near river area aside from Riva Arun. Posts above were also saying Shangri La was not as central and Millenium Hilton seems to be around there as well. Not 100% tied to Hilton, and if there is minimal difference in travel time when arriving on Fri and leaving on a Sat morning, I'd be open to checking out other areas.
