It was unnecessary, but not at all confusing and a promise nevertheless. I'm not sure where the confusion comes from. United said this:

We’re giving Premier members a head start on their status goals to make retaining or upgrading status easier. In early 2023, we will automatically deposit PQP into MileagePlus accounts based on the 2023 Premier status you reached at the end of 2022. So at the end of 2022 they told us they are depositing "head start" PQP in early 2023. Those deposits 2023 happened. The last sentence here says that they are going to do the
same thing in 2024. It says members will enjoy , "...this
head start toward status..." not the actual status from the earlier deposit. So I'd expect another similar deposit, or "head start" in early 2024. I'm n
