I didn't know what to expect here after all of comments and a pretty disappointing stay at the Boulders. I transferred here for the last night of my trip. All in all, I had a perfectly fine stay. One night, in a very recently renovated room in the terrace court.
Massive contrast--this place is a convention and meeting hotel first and foremost. One, it's huge. Courtyard after courtyard, wing after wing. Also, it's BUSY. The crew from Cox in Atlanta flew in their management team for a meeting, and the frenetic energy was everywhere--people with conference badges rushing too and fro at every turn. This isn't the place to come and relax, realistically. The main pool is in the center of it all, and not a place where I could really relax (and the family pool looks both huge and busy when people are around). Food is expensive and fairly cookie cutter (although I did appreciate the ice-cream joint, even if the "gelato" wasn't that good and was $8/scoop), but it was more than fine. Lots of options, and it came quickly. Wait staff were present and friendly without being obsequious.
I'll also admit to being pleasantly surprised by the service. Check in / out staff, bell staff, etc were friendly, can-do, and gave me the right level of detail with a smile. Everyone tried to be helpful. Was it impersonal? Of course it was, there are over 700 rooms. But, for example, my waymo picked me up on the back side of the resort, and by the time I realized, I wouldn't have been able to walk in time. Issue? Not at all, the valet stand put me in a golf cart and drove me so that I'd make it (I volunteered to walk, they refused to let me). Valet even insisted on loading my bags into the trunk for me.
My room was recently renovated, and it was perfectly fine. TV was MASSIVE, but fixtures were all brand new and everything worked. Admitted the hallways and elevator were a bit grungy.
I was frankly a non-fussy traveler on this one, and I can imagine that the Biltmore has a high error rate given its realistic size and target demographics. I'm just saying that a perfectly fine stay is absolutely possible. Maybe I got lucky?
