A fair number of steps, since entry/exit is on 57th between 6th and 7th.

It's a decent midtown location, literally dozens of hotels have similarly convenient midtown locations. It's not located right on the park, and I would tend to agree with jbandy 10's comment that there's nothing otherwise special about the location.
