I guess my Suunto altimeter is safe since it is not a wristwatch and is not a Casio. I need to take it on some of my travels and I'm certainly not planning on placing it in checked luggage.

Why is the altimeter an issue for carry-on items? It would seem that a terrorist doesn't need an altimeter if he is with the "bomb" to detonate it.

And why should the TSA be any more concerned about this lighter/watch as compared to a butane lighter or matches -- they all do the same thing: provide an ignition source. (Of course, it appears that butane lighters are on the way out, but how does the TSA find them without searching every bag thoroughly).
