With LH there are many ways to upgrade:

• Upgrade for a fixed price straight after booking (similar to Delta);
• Bid to upgrade until 48h before the flight (starting at a low minimum price);
• Upgrade at online checkin;

Plus of course airport upgrades, email offers etc which probably every airline offers.

At AFKL you can only upgrade during OLCI, sometimes for good prices, otherwise for irrational prices.

Did I mention that when you upgrade you also receive status points / equivalent of XP? (whereas on AFKL you don’t, deleting any incentive for elite plus members to upgrade except the empty seat and meal, which become quite expensive when tou already have everything else for free).

This is not to glorify LH group, I’m not a fan of them at all, but strictly on J upselling they offer much more possibility. And those things would be so easy for AFKL to add as well.
