I booked tickets LAX to SFO on DL a couple of weeks ago via C1 portal, so I could use the annual travel credit. Thought it was better to get ahead of it (UA, where I have status, fares were absurd, while DL had some reasonable ones at a good time, so jumped on it). Seems I'm seeing some flights, though not what we're booked on, dropping. But if it does (or if another reasonable timed flight shows up), is it possible to take advantage of the new fare? Note this is a regular economy fare (not basic).
I assume since we already booked DL, any drop will only be a credit useable on DL? Do I have to make a change with C1 portal directly, or can I do it with DL directly? Does having paid for a small portion of the fare in points complicate anything? Does having used DL miles after booking to 'upgrade' to Comfort+ complicate any of this?
Shame, because UA fares on similarly timed flights are now about equal, and overall OOP would be lower once you factor in bags (which I have to pay for on DL, but as a silver, not on UA).
The Cap1 Travel price drop protection is valid for 10 days from your purchase. So when you say you booked this a couple of weeks ago, that would put you outside of that 10 day window.
It's also only up to $50 back AND it's now credited to your Cap1 Travel balance. Not the original payment method.
If you book and find the price dropped within 24 hours, you can file a claim and get the full difference credited. From what I understand this is NOT capped at $50 like the 10-day price drop protection is.
It sounds like you have logged into Delta and made a change to your itinerary (C+ seat upgrade), so you
should now be bound by the Delta terms for the fare/ticket. Cap1 portal
should not in the picture anymore. However, I will let those with actual experience with this situation chime in.
Hope that helps!
