I recently bought 116K UA miles during the double mile promotion. When the charge posted on AMEX, it shows "POINTS UNITED MILES SAN FRANCISCO CA." It's not categorized as an airlines charge, and I only received 1 point per dollar. Is this true for all other credit cards? Purchasing miles doesn't count as a travel expense? Or is this a separate company than United Airlines?
