We usually position to AMS on a flight from LGW (close to where we live) around 4pm. We always stay at the CitizenM on airport, love it there and treat it as first night of holiday. Then our main BA ticket starts the following morning with a Club Europe flight to LHR and onward to San Diego. Doing it this way also saves the drag of driving to LHR!
